How to light your porch, patio and garden

Get the placement right
Mount wall lights at eye level, with the center about 66" above the ground or threshold, and keep lights on the same wall at the same height. Center hanging lights above the door or seating area.

Match the rating to the spot
Damp-rated lights belong under a roof or overhang, like a covered porch or patio. Anywhere exposed to rain and snow needs a wet-rated fixture. When in doubt, go wet-rated.

Keep the light warm
Choose warm white between 2700K and 3000K for a welcoming glow with less glare. Save cooler light (4000K and up) for driveways and security lighting.
